Control Engineering: Atlab ® Atlab ®

You need some software to support your learning in this unit, and to enable you to complete the course work (controller design and simulation) there are a couple of choices: 1. Is a commercial solution, you can buy a copy of student version from MathWorks, this includes the Control System Toolbox as standard. 2. We have MATLAB (r) installed on the School of Engineering unix network, and you can access it remotely.

version from MathWorks, this includes the Control System Toolbox as standard, and is more than adequate for this unit. 2. We have MATLAB installed on the School of Engineering unix network, and you can access it remotely. We cannot guarantee the availability of this software (due to limited number of licenses) and also you may find that remote access is very slow, depending on your internet connection, and the server load in the School. 3. SciLab is a freeware solution.

MATLAB

is supported within the unit, some simple (and very relevant)

MATLAB

commands are included within the material to get you started. SciLab is also more than adequate for the unit and course work, but is not supported. I am not so familiar with it, but it is very similar to MATLAB . With SciLab you will need to be more independent about learning the basics, but there is plenty of built-in and on-line help.
