Statistical treatment The questions under study were treated by using descriptive and inferential statistics.

Frequency distribution and percentages measuring the data about the respondents profile, while the weighted mean determined the extent of knowledge on prevention of hypertension according to diet and physical activity. The formula is: Xwt = X1W1 + X2W2 + X3W3 N

Where: Xwt = weighted mean

X = score or item value

W = weight of score

N = total number of respondets

The computed mean was analyzed and interpreted based on the guidelines below :

Arbitrary Score 4

Weighted Score 3.26-4.00

Extent Highly Knowledgeable

Interpretation Accuracy

2.51- 3.25

Moderately Knowledgeable

When the above items regarding prevention of hypertension according to diet and physical activity

are very satisfactorily shown(most of the answered correctly) 2 2.50-1.76 Least Knowledgeable 1 1.00-1.75 Not Knowledgeable

The inferential statistics included t-test and f-test. Specifically the t-test measured significant differences in the extent of knowledge on prevention of hypertension according to age and gender. The formula is T = X1 X2
( )

Where: X1 = the mean of the first sample

X2 = the mean of the second sample

EX = summation of squared roots

N =total numbers of respondents

X1 and X2 = deviation from the means of the two samples

X1 and X2 = sum of squares in the two samples

The F- test measured significant differences in the extent of knowledge on prevention of hypertension according to educational attainment.

The formula is :

F=

Where: MSSb = the mean square of sum of squares between group

MSSw = the mean square of sum of squares within group
