KEY TERM
HYPOTHESIS AIM VARIABLE INDEPENDENT VARIABLE DEPENDENT VARIABLE DEMAND CHARACTERISTICS

DEFINITION
A testable statement of what the researchers predict will be the outcome of the study. Clearly highlights what the researcher is intending to investigate. Something the researcher changes or manipulates. The variable that is manipulated (controlled) by the experimenter. The measured outcome. Any features of the research that may affect participants behaviour, making them act unnaturally or look for cues to tell them what the research is about and behave accordingly. The degree to which the findings form a study can be generalised beyond the research setting. The group that experiences the independent variable. The group that does not experience the independent variable. Experiencing both the experimental and control conditions in a repeated measures design may affect participants performance such as either damaging it or improving it. Reversing the order of the conditions for half of the participants. Randomly assigning participants into different groups.
