Episode 1

1- In groups, discuss the following questions. a) Have you ever seen the show? b) What do you know about the characters?(names, relationships between them, etc)

2-Watch the first segment of the episode and try to predict, what is happening between Joey and Rachel?

3-Now watch the same segment with sound. Were your predictions accurate? What is going on?

4-Decide whether the following statements are true or false:

a) Rachel is in hospital, because she has just undergone a surgery. b) Joey really wants to propose to Rachel. c) Joey is about to talk to Rachel, when their friends show up. d) Phoebe knows exactly what happened between Rachel and Joey. 5-Who said the following.? a) b) c) d) e) I cant still believe my father saw us having sex! Theres nothing to be ashamed of. Get back in there, Ill guard the door. Is he crazy? Youve just had Rossbaby! Could you be a dear and go tell him?

6- Match the beginning in A with an ending in B.

1-Rachel was very excited with Joeys proposal. 2-Ross didnt remember whether he had proposed to Rachel before. 3-Phoebe was puzzled with her friends relationships. 4-Joey wanted Ross and Rachel to talk. 5-Monicas father wanted his daughter to get pregnant.

a-He was confused and tired.

b-She accepted it immediately.

c-She decided to leave.

d-He left them alone in the room. e-He got some pamphlets from the doctor.

Now, combine the pair of sentences to form one sentence. REMEMBER: so + adjective/adverb that ..(result) So that + sentence (purpose). e.g.: Rachel was so excited with Joeys proposal that she accepted immediately.

7- PRESENT PERFECT/PAST SIMPLE/PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS. Error Correction. Correct the mistakes in the following sentences 1 to 5. (only one is correct) 1- Joey has been proposing to Rachel this morning. 2-Monicas father has been practising his magic tricks for weeks. 3-Since Joey has proposed to Rachel, she was extremely happy. 4-Joey has tried to explain the misunderstanding to Rachel since the beginning of the episode. 5-Monicas father has said that Emma was his first grandchild a week ago.
