What is main ideas?


The definition of a main idea is a sentence or

generalization that tells what the paragraph is about. Main Ideas are generally found at the beginning of the paragraph, however they can be anywhere in the paragraph.

What are supporting sentences?

They come after the topic sentence, making up the body of a paragraph. What do they do? They give details to develop and support the main idea of the paragraph. How do I write them? You should give supporting facts, details, and examples.

The first thing you must be able to do to get at the

main idea of a paragraph is to identify the topic - the subject of the paragraph ask yourself the question, "What is this about? While reading the text. getting the main idea of a paragraph is crucial to reading.

Niagara Falls is one of the most beautiful sights in

North America. It is on the Niagara River halfway between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. Niagara Falls is located on the American and Canadian border. The American Falls is 167 feet high. On the Canadian side, the Horseshoe Falls is 161 feet high.
