Lab08 Worksheet

The document discusses sharing a folder and accessing it with different permissions. It explains that the Guest account cannot access the shared folder even with Read permission granted, because it also requires the appropriate NTFS permission on the security tab. Even granting Full Control at the share level would not solve the problem for the Guest account. It provides details on the current sessions, computers, and users accessing the workstation shares, including one user from 10.10.0.111. It notes there are six total shares on the computer, with five hidden and one visible share called "support".

Exercise 8.

2 Sharing a Folder

Quastion 1: Why are you unable to access the share using the Guest account, despite having granted the user the Allow Read permission? Despite giving the appropriate share permission to the file you must also give the appropriate NTFS permission. Share permission is set in the folders property sheet under the sharing tab and the NTFS permission is under the security tab of the same properties sheet. Quastion 2: Would the Guest user be able to access the share if you granted it the Allow Full Control share permission, rather than the Allow Read permission? No. This will not solve the problem. Because the Guest account is not permitted to access the folder on NTFS level. Quastion 3: How many currently open sessions are there on the workstation? Which computers and which users are accessing the workstation's shares? One user and one computer is connected to the share (Administrator) 10.10.0.111 , NYC-CLb Quastion 4: How many shares are there on the computer that are visible to network users? How can you tell? Six (6) shares, 5 Hidden shares and one share "support" is visible for network users. $ symbol at the end of the share means the share is hidden.

Quastion 5: How are the results different from the first time you performed this task? This time access to the folder was successful over the network.
