0310 WELL CONTROL 1 Target group: Drilling and well service personnel who are preparing to gain their

certification tests in well control for the first time. The course is recommended for technical personnel who need to revise their basic well control theory, as well as technical personnel who wish to acquire basic knowledge of well control equipment, normal pressure conditions in a well and how to handle abnormal pressures situations. Learning objectives: After completing the course the student should be able to describe the pressure conditions inside a well, read drilling instruments and use pressure control equipment during drilling or well operations. Furthermore they should be able to detect abnormal well pressure conditions and describe the various killing methods currently in use. Qualifications: This web based course is in accordance with the guidelines from The Norwegian Oil Industry Association and covers the official Norwegian syllabus for Technical College, Petroleum Technology Faculty. The course is equivalent to 74 hours of ordinary tuition in this subject. Entry requirements: Introduction courses or relevant professional background. Course content: Pressure conditions in rock formations Normal and abnormal pressure development Shallow gas Monitoring of bore hole pressure Investigations prior to drilling, experience data from neighbouring wells Magnetometry, gravimetry, seismic investigation Observations during drilling Changes in ROP d-exponent and dc exponent (formula) Torque and weight changes Connection gas, background gas and trip gas Temperature changes during depth alterations MWD/LWD Density changes in shale Fees EI Individual member Non-member
