Dear Athletes, Coaches, and Spectators,
Welcome to the inaugural Nordic Grand Prix! We hope that this event succeeds in introducing youth skiers to international competition in a fun and informative way. This winter has been monumental for North America; with the World Cup races in Quebec and Canmore, Americas first World Championship Gold, and absolutely stellar performances from both National Teams. The USST attributes their seasons success to the collaborative training done with Canadian and Swedish national teams. USST member Ida Sargent said a year ago, I never would have imagined myself feeling comfortable enough to laugh and joke or run and ski alongside these girls, many of whom are my idols on the World Cup, but thanks to the confidence gained by training with these top racers, Sargent went on to two top 10 World Cup results this winter! We hope that the Grand Prix can help create lasting friendships, partnerships, and healthy competition across the boarder, and our skiers can understand the true global nature of this sport. This continent is quickly demonstrating its prowess in a previously European-dominated sport, and it all starts with you! So introduce yourself to the other racers, practice your French and English, and make friends that will last a lifetime. You all have the ability to become elite racers, you have to believe in yourselves, train with your competitors, and most importantly HAVE FUN! 11 years ago I raced in my first Midget Championships in Quebec, and my last BKL Festival in Notchview, Massachusetts. I remember the thrill of racing in Canada, the excitement as the starter counted down trois, deux, un, allez!, and the realization that there were some really good racers there! Now over a decade later I still have friends that I made at these events, and if I think back, I can still remember watching Ida Sargent and Alex Harvey ski for the first time. It could be you! Sincerely,
12

Waxing Code of Ethics: This weekend championships will have a no-floro policy. We restrict any form of pure fluorinated products (powder, bloc, paste, liquid). Thank you for your cooperation.
Races
Sunday March 24 Skate Individual Start Prolog. Racers will be started in :15 second intervals by birth year, with 2 minutes separating each age group. All age groups will complete one lap of the course. Finish times from the mornings prolog will be used to create the start times Saturday March 23 for the afternoons pursuit. For the pursuit, each racer will start based on Skate Distance Individual Start. Racers will be started in :15 second intervals by birth year, with 2 minutes separating each age group. 10 and 11 year old twice their time back from the Prolog winner. For example if the Bob beat Joe by 12 seconds in the prolog, Bob would start the pursuit first, and then racers will complete one lap of the course, with 12 and 13 year old racers Joe would be started 24 seconds after Bob. completing two laps. It will be VERY important for all racers to have a complete understanding of this timing scenario as it will go very quickly and will be easy to miss starts. The Skate course will follow 2/3rds of the new FIS-D Homologated Coaches and Parents, please try to facilitate this understanding. There will Tormondsen Race Course. The course will be 2.75km and will feature the courses fun banked-turn descents and challenging B-climb! The same course be a Coaches/Parents/Athlete meeting directly following Saturdays award ceremony where we will go into more explanation of a pursuit race as well as will be used for the classic pursuit on Sunday, the 24th. answer any questions that you might have.
Races
Sunday March 24 Classic Pursuit Race. Start times will be based off of finish times from the mornings Skate Prolog. See previous page for explanation. The same course from Saturdays individual start Skate race will be used for Sundays Classic Pursuit. Again, be sure to come to the open Coaches/Athlete/Parent meeting directly following Saturdays awards ceremony for more information relating to the pursuit start. The Prolog and Pursuit are two parts of one race, awards will be given out to the top ten finishers of the overall pursuit. In order to do well in the pursuit you need to do well in the prolog, however doing well in the prolog doesnt guarantee a top spot in the pursuit! Think of it like a sprint race! You have to go hard in the qualification to make the finals, but you also need gas in the tank for the heats!
