Theory of Constructivism 2

Piaget's theory of cognitive constructivism posits that children construct knowledge and acquire skills by transforming, organizing, and reorganizing previous knowledge through processes like assimilation, accommodation, and hypothetical deductive reasoning. According to Piaget, individuals progress through sensorimotor, pre-operational, concrete operational, and formal operational stages of cognitive development. The theory emphasizes that learning occurs through active participation in problem solving and knowledge is constructed based on an individual's experiences and developmental level. Effective teaching approaches based on cognitive constructivism include using formative assessment, facilitating student-guided learning, and creating an exploratory learning environment.

Piagets Theory of Cognitive Constructivism

Constructivism
Created in mind based on experience Assumptions: Knowledge can be formed by individuals who take their own initiatives The aim to form knowledge is to adapt oneself in the environment The process of knowledge formation is the result of individual experience Originated from Piagets Cognitive Development Theory (cognitive constructivism) and Vygotskys Zone of Proximal Development (social constructivism)

Essence of Piagets Construtivism Theory.

Children construct knowlegde and aquire skills by transforming, organising and reorganising previous knowledge. Maintaining adaptation, assimilation, accomodation, operation, conservation, classification, hypothetical-deductive reasoning are the key processes for cognitive construction of knowledge and skills. Strong emphasis on sensorimotor, pre-operation, concrete operation and formal operation Individuals own effort Education refines pupils cognitive skills

Implication of Piaget Cognitive Constructivism on Teaching and Learning

Adopt constructivist approach in teaching and learning and emphasize pupils learn best through active participation in problem- solvings. Use facilitating technique to guide them to learn. Learning materials as well as teaching method should be based on the pupils cognitive development and their level of thinking. Use ongoing formative assessment during the process of teaching and learning to evaluate pupils progress.

Promote naturalism in learning that is pupils learning should occur naturally according to their developmental stages and should not be push and pressured to acquire skill or knowledge beyond their ability. Construct the learning environment into a setting of exploration and discovery. Emphasize pupils interest and natural participation in learning activities. Teacher should encourage pupils to explore their world and discover knowledge through their own effort.
