JJ512 Pneumatic PH2 Lab Sheet

This document provides instructions for an experiment on electropneumatic circuits. The experiment has two problems: 1) designing a circuit to control a stamping machine, and 2) designing a circuit to control a magazine feeder. The document outlines safety precautions, procedures for solving each problem, and topics to discuss such as direct vs indirect control methods, a time motion diagram, and types of sensors used in pneumatic circuits. Students are expected to design the circuits, sketch diagrams, and discuss concepts related to electropneumatic systems.

At the end of the lab session students should be able: 1.1 Design Basic Electropneumatic circuit. 1.2 Apply and demonstrate the electropneumatic circuit on the experimental board
2.0 Introduction / theory

Pneumatics are good for straight movements, but, with the right linkage can be used for rotation or other movements. Pneumatics are also used a lot in industry. It can be used to do lots of different jobs such as moving, holding or shaping objects.

Safety Precautions 4.1 Pressurised air lines that become detached can cause accidents. Switch off pressure immediately! 4.2 First connect all tubing and secure before switching on the compressed air. 4.3 Cylinders may advance or retract as soon as the compressed air is switched on. 4.4 Do not exceed the permissible working pressure (see data sheets). 4.5 Use only low voltages of 24 V 4.6 Switch off the air and voltage supply before disconnecting the circuit.

Procedures / Problem definition

Problem 1 : Stamping Machine PB1 will control the movement of stamping machine, lamp 1 and buzzer will ON with the process. The stamping cylinder will retract by pushing PB2. Lamp 4 will ON and lamp 3 will be OFF when the Stamping Machine back to normal position. Design an electropneumatic circuit that can solve the problem Problem 2:Magazine Feeder By pressing a start button, a workpiece is pushed away from the gravity feed magazine onto a conveyor system. The cylinder returns automatically when it has reached the fully extended position. Fully extended and retracted positions are sensed by limit switches LS1 and LS2. The Cylinder is controlled by a 5/2 way valve double solenoid. Design an electropneumatic circuit that can solve the problem.
