Student Objectives: After completing this lesson, students will be able to: identify situations where wall mounted cable could be used explain how tie wraps are used with wall mounted cable for permanent and/or temporary installations describe what a raceway is and how it is used compare and contrast the methods of attaching a raceway determine what considerations must be taken into account when running cable through existing raceways evaluate what personal pre-cautions must be considered when running cable list the precautions required for building safety list the options for supporting cable in a dropped ceiling describe how cable is fished through a wall Lesson Summary: the easiest way to route cable is to mount it on the wall - make sure it isn where it will get t bumped use tie wraps only if cable won have to be moved t use a hammer drill to drill holes in masonry wall - if using screw on tie wraps cable can be mounted in a raceway - a wall mounted channel with a removable cover (can be decorative) or gutter type (restricted to attics and drop ceilings) once a raceway is mounted, cable is laid inside cable can be routed in existing gateways - but check to see what is already in it (i.e., electrical cables) turn off power and wear appropriate clothing survey area wear safety glasses if cutting anything know fire codes before drilling don run cable near damaged insulation t if running cable where air is routed, check for fire rated cable in dropped ceilings, never lay cable on the ceiling use a telepole to string cable in dropped ceilings use fish tape when stringing cable through a wall
