Network I Lesson 24: Student Objectives: After Completing This Lesson, Students Will Be Able To

The document summarizes the key steps and objectives for a lesson on designing and implementing a local area network (LAN). The four main steps for LAN design are conducting a study, selection and design, implementation, and operation. The study phase involves investigating and analyzing an organization's needs by gathering information on its history, systems, and issues to assess user requirements and identify resources and constraints. The goal is to compile a report documenting findings to inform the LAN design. Objectives for students include listing the design steps, explaining the study phase, analyzing LAN needs, and developing administrator questions.

Network I Lesson 24

Student Objectives: After completing this lesson, students will be able to: list the 4 steps of LAN design & implementation explain why a study is performed to determine LAN design explain what occurs during the investigation & analysis phase conduct an investigation & analysis of LAN needs on a hypothetical organization compile a report on the findings develop questions to ask a LAN administrator

Lesson Summary: WHAT YOU LEARN ON THE JOB IS AS IMPORTANT AS WHAT YOU LEART ABOUT THE JOB for a LAN to work it must be planned in a series of systematic steps: study selection and design implementation operation 1. Conduct a study - learn the need and justification for the LAN A. investigation & analysis 1. gather information on the organization - history, current status, projected growth, operating policy, management procedures, office systems & procedures (viewpoints) 2. issues or problems that need to be addressed (this process should help identify and clarify the problems) 3. assess user requirements (make certain information requirements are satisfied - a detailed analysis of current and projected needs will help this process) 4. identify resources and constraints organization resources that can impact a LAN: hardware and software resources human resources - skill levels of users (training and support required) existing hardware/software must be documented projected hardware/software needs must be identified write a report - organizing and documenting the information to be used in the feasibility study LAN LAST A LONG TIME!
