The objective of this course is to provide a basic introduction to the theory of digital signal processing (DSP). Major parts of the course will concentrate on signal analysis using Fourier transforms, linear system analysis and filter design. We will study the discrete Fourier transform and its properties. We will also study the sampling theorem and the relationship between continuous and discrete time transforms. We will then study the design and implementation of digital filters.

Course Outlines: Introduction (Ch. 1). Quick revision of discrete time systems and Z-transform. (Ch. 2 & Ch. 3). Frequency analysis of the signals and LTI systems. (Ch. 4 & Ch. 5). Sampling and reconstruction of signals. (Ch. 6). The discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and the fast Fourier transform (FFT). (Ch. 7 & Ch. 8). Implementation of discrete-time systems (Ch. 9). Design of analog and digital filters (Ch. 10).
