Speech To Text

This document outlines a seminar presentation on a smart texting system. The presentation includes an introduction on the history and need for such a system. It then covers literature surveys of 5 relevant papers on speech-to-text systems. The presentation discusses challenges in text normalization, text-to-phoneme conversion, and evaluation. It also explains various speech recognition algorithms and the working of a speech-to-text conversion system. The presentation covers performance parameters, applications in healthcare, hands-free computing and more. It lists advantages like ease of use but also disadvantages like noise interfering with accuracy. The presentation concludes and references the 5 papers discussed earlier.

Advantages
Speech is a very natural way to interact, and it is not

necessary to sit at a keyboard or work with a remote control. No training required for users! Assist persons with disabilities who may be vision impaired by reading text

Disadvantages
Even the best speech recognition systems sometimes make

errors. If there is noise or some other sound in the room (e.g. the television or a kettle boiling), the number of errors will increase. Speech Recognition works best if the microphone is close to the user (e.g. in a phone, or if the user is wearing a microphone). More distant microphones (e.g. on a table or wall) will tend to increase the number of errors. But speech recognition but the recognition fails because it requires preprocessing after acquiring of speech. The system requires training of voice because of the purpose of it should recognize the correct voice of that user. Suppose user A having this system in his mobile his voice should be train so as to get correct recognition of text.
