WHAT

IS ANDROID

Android is Linux based operating system for mobile devices such as Smartphones and tablet computers.

A complete and modern embedded operating system for mobile devices.


Based on the Linux kernel Developed by Google and later the Open Handset Alliance (OHA). Allows writing managed code in the Java language Unveiling of the Android platform was announced on 5 November 2007 with the founding of OHA

WHY ANDROID WAS CREATED

Software development. Run on very small electronic devices. Full open software stack including application. Designed as a platform for software development. Android is open. Android is free. Community support. 100% java phone.

- the open handset alliance is a consortium of several companies.

WHAT IS OPEN HANDSET ALLIANCE(OHA)

It is consortium of several companies, which include google, htc, sony, dell, intel, motorola, qualcomm,texas instruments,samsung electronics,lg electronics and many more. Oha was established on 5 nov 2007. Goal is to develop open standards for mobile devices. Android is the first product of OHA. Develop technologies that will significantly and distributing mobile devices and services.

PERFORMANCE

DESIGN
Android consists of a kernel based on Linux kernel, with middleware, libraries & APIS written in C & application software running on a application framework which includes java- compatible libraries based on Apache Harmony. Uses Dalvik Virtual Machine with just- in time compilation. Hardware platform for android is ARM machine.

ANDROID ARCHITECTURE

LIMITATIONS
Bluetooth Limitations Android doesnt support Bluetooth stereo. Contacts exchange. Modem pairing. Wireless pairing. Wireless keyboards. But itll work with Bluetooth headsets.
