January 4, 2013 To Whom It May Concern: It is my pleasure and honor to write a strong letter of recommendation for Michelle Landis. Ive known Ms. Landis in the context of English 418, Literature for Children and Young Adults in a Digital Age, offered during the fall of 2011. Subsequently, we have remained in touch of the last several semesters. Michelle Landis is an exceptional learner, one of the most outstanding undergraduates I have ever had the pleasure of teaching at University of Michigan. She is curious, inquisitive, and reflective. She has a passion for working with children and youth, as demonstrated by the diversity of experiences she has sought. In the context of our class, we engaged in a cross-age exchange and campus visit with a sixth grade class in Southfield, MI; after the class ended, Michelle accompanied me to the school where we showed book trailers and talked about our process making them. She went far beyond the course requirements in her search for additional, educative experiences. More than any other student in that particular class, Michelle was intrigued by both the possibility of teaching and learning in a digital age, as well as by the amazing breadth of texts available for youth. She was a joy to have in class, because she took any seed idea to fruition in her quest for learning. She has the drive and the capacities that undergird wonderful teaching, so it is my hope that she continues down this pathway, whether at the K-12 or college and university level. I feel certain that Michelle Landis will bring her intelligence, drive, and discipline to whatever endeavor she chooses to pursue. Please feel free to contact me at (734) 4743926 cell, (734) 615-1409 office, or [email protected] with any additional questions or queries you might have. Sincerely,

Laura J. Roop, Ph. D. Director, Outreach
