Lab Manual For Mechanics Lab

This document summarizes an experiment to determine the reactions of a simply supported beam under two loads. The apparatus included a simply supported beam, weights, hangers, and a spring balance. Two hangers were placed on the beam at specific points and different weights were added. The experimental and theoretical reactions at each support (Ra and Rb) were recorded and compared, with errors attributed to friction, calibration, and zero error in the instruments.

Lab session #3 To determine the reactions of simply supported beam for two loads.

Apparatus
1. 2. 3. 4. Simply supported beam Weights Hanger Spring Balance

Procedure
1. Settled the apparatus according to given experiment. 2. Removed errors in the apparatus. 3. In this experiment, two hangers were used. Putted the hangers on the specific points on the beam and added the different weights on the hangers. 4. Noted the values for different weights

Observations and calculations

Serial number Weights W1 W2 (newton) Length L1 L2 (meter) Reactions of beam Experimental values Ra Rb Theoretical values Ra Rb

Comments
1. Exact values could not be found out because of frictional effects. 2. The error was due to poor calibration of the instrument. 3. Zero error was found in the instrument.
