Electric Vehicles Vs Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles: Power

Electric vehicles are powered by electric motors and batteries that are more energy efficient than internal combustion engines, converting about 59-62% of electrical energy to power compared to 17-21% for gasoline vehicles. EVs emit no tailpipe pollutants but the power plants producing their electricity may, while internal combustion engines produce air pollution from incomplete fuel combustion. EVs also provide quieter performance with stronger acceleration and less maintenance than gasoline vehicles, though most can only travel 100-200 miles before recharging compared to over 300 miles for gasoline vehicles, and recharging EVs fully takes 4-8 hours versus 5-15 minutes to refuel an internal combustion engine vehicle. The large battery packs in EVs are also expensive and heavy

Electric vehicles vs Internal combustion engine vehicles

Power
Electric vehicles (EVs) are propelled by an electric motor (or motors) powered by rechargeable battery packs. In an internal combustion engine (ICE) the expansion of the high-temperatureand highpressure gases produced by combustion apply direct force to some component of the engine. The force is applied typically to pistons, turbine blades, or a nozzle

Energy efficient.
Electric vehicles convert about 59 62% of the electrical energy from the grid to power at the wheels. Conventional gasoline vehicles only convert about 1721% of the energy stored in gasoline to power at the wheels

Environmentally friendly.
EVs emit no tailpipe pollutants, although the power plant producing the electricity may emit them. Electricity from nuclear-, hydro-, solar-, or wind-powered plants causes no air pollutants. Internal combustion engines produce air pollution emissions, due to incomplete combustion of carbonaceous fuel.

Performance benefits.
Electric motors provide quiet, smooth operation and stronger acceleration and require less maintenance than ICEs. ICEs need maintenance that can be quite expensive sometimes (radiator, belts, sparck plugs, oils etc)

Driving range
Most EVs can only go about 100 200 miles before recharging. Gasoline vehicles can go over 300 miles before refueling.

Recharge time.
Fully recharging the battery pack can take 4 to 8 hours. Even a "quick charge" to 80% capacity can take 30 min. Refueling an ICE takes between 5-15 min. depending if there is a line or not at the gas station.

Battery/Fuel cost:
The large battery packs are expensive and may need to be replaced one or more times. In the last 2 years, gas price increased a lot and became also quite expensive.

Bulk & weight

Battery packs are heavy and take up considerable vehicle space. However, researchers are working on improved battery technologies to increase driving range and decrease recharging time, weight, and cost. These factors will ultimately determine the future of EVs. Internal combustion engine vehicles use lead-acid batteries that need to be recycled after being used for a very long period, but theyre not as havy or as big as the ones EV are using
