    I am pleased to recommend to you a uniquely dynamic teacher of the highest caliber Mark Garside. Having the opportunity to work alongside Mark as a faculty member at Washington High School in Taiwan was truly an honor and an invaluable learning experience. Mark is brilliant, imaginative, and electrifying. His roles at the school were social studies teacher and department head, yet his influence and inspiration reached far beyond these roles. Mark doesnt just educate, he inspires; students love him and clamor to be in his class. He is a hardworking, industrious teacher, and to say his teaching is vivid and interesting would be an understatement. His attention to detail is impressive and he utilizes all available resources to provide students with multiple adaptive learning. In addition to commanding perfect control of the classroom, Mark possesses a wide range of skills that make him an outstanding teacher. Among these are developing integrated curricula, collaboration, the ability to assess the needs of his students, and the gift of encouraging his students to think critically. His command of the Socratic method of teaching is nothing short of masterful. Marks concern for the needs of adolescents and his knowledge of the issues that they face is an important part of his teaching. His students know that he respects them. He listens to them without judgment, and he encourages them to offer their opinions and share their feelings. This produces a wonderful climate for learning as the students consider both themselves and their work to be worthy and important. He helps students become critical thinkers with strong and confident voices. Mark possesses high ideals, a willingness to listen, and a special flair for touching the souls of people. Self-improvement is a passion with Mark. He demands perfection of himself, yet accepts, with rare insight, the imperfections of others. His energy, enthusiasm and care for the young people he works with would be an asset to any program. Mark possesses a rare natural talent for educating that cannot be learned.
