Minia University Faculty of Engineering CSE Department Third Year Systems Analysis Mid Term Exam, 18, December, 2012 Time Allowed: 40 Min. Degree: 25

This document contains exam questions for a systems analysis course. The first question (20 points) involves a discrete-time LTI system described by a difference equation model. Students are asked to: (1) determine the order, poles, and zeros of the system; (2) compute the continuous poles for a sampling period of 1 second; (3) determine if the system is stable and why; (4) compute the complete response; and (5) check the response using the Z-transform. The second question involves a continuous-time LTI system described by a differential equation model. Students are asked to: (1) determine the initial conditions for a unit-step input; (2) compute

Faculty of Engineering Third Year Mid Term Exam, 18, December, 2012 Degree: 25

Answer the following question

Question (20 points): A LTI discrete system is described by the following difference equation model, [ ] [ ] { [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ]

(1) Determine the order of the system, values of poles, and values of zeros. (2) Compute the corresponding continuous poles for T=1 sec. (3) Is the system stable? Why? (4) Compute the complete response of the given system. (5) Check your answer in part (4) by using the Z-transform technique.

Question (II): The differential equation model of a LTI system is ( ) ( ) ( ) ( ) ( ) ( ) ( ) ( )

The input signal is a unit-step one. 1.1) Determine the initial conditions at t=0+. 1.2) Compute the system poles. Is the system stable? Why?

1.3) Compute the system zeros. Is the system a nonminimum phase one? Why? 1.4) What is the dc gain and the feedforward gain of the system? 1.5)Compute the homogenous solution, the particular solution, and the complete solution of the system. 1.6)Find the impulse response of the system. 1.7) Check your result in (1.6).
