Mammae Diagram

A woman felt a lump in her right breast in the upper lateral quadrant that had grown larger and more painful over the past 2 months. Due to limited diagnostic tools and examination techniques, the lump was suspected to be breast cancer and urgent action was needed. She was referred to an oncology specialist. Further tests including mammography, ultrasound, X-rays, PET scan, CT scan, liver function blood tests, bone scan, and biopsy were done to determine if it was a non-cancerous growth, benign tumor, or malignant cancer and if it had metastasized. The results would guide the treatment plan which could include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, or medication depending on the cancer stage and type.
