This PowerPoint presentation introduces three topics: ICT/programming using the Scratch platform to build simple programs and experiment with shapes and angles, maths to learn properties of shapes like number of sides and degree of turns, and thinking skills through generating discussion questions about experiments. It provides details on the number of sides and angle turns for common shapes from triangles to decagons to encourage discussion and thinking. The presentation aims to get students experimenting and enjoying learning through the interactive Scratch programming environment and shape puzzles.

ABOUT THIS POWERPOINT

ICT / PROGRAMMING
Use Scratch to build simple computer programs (scripts) to make things happen. Drag the coloured blocks into the script area, join them together, then click them to see what happens. Experiment. Enjoy!

MATHS Learn how many sides a shape has and how many degrees you must turn for the angle. Do you notice that the number of sides a shape has, multiplied by the angle turn always equals 360 (I can feel a Maths discussion coming on here!). What do the shape patterns look like when completed? Discuss. Enjoy!

THINKING SKILLS

Performing the tasks in this PowerPoint leads naturally to discussion. If it doesnt work, where have you gone wrong? Many What if? questions can be generated using Scratch. The possibilities are endless. Experiment. Enjoy!

SHAPE NUMBERS
No. of sides Triangle = 3 Square = 4 Pentagon = 5 Hexagon = 6 Heptagon = 7 Octagon = 8 Nonagon = 9 Decagon = 10

Angle turn Triangle = 120 Square = 90 Pentagon = 72 Hexagon = 60

Heptagon = 51.43 (best fit!)

Octagon = 45 Nonagon = 40 Decagon = 36

Add some speech at the beginning and end.
