Process of Comm

Communication involves a process with linked phases whether writing, speaking, or reading. The phases include: (1) the sender has an idea, (2) the idea becomes a message, (3) the message is transmitted, (4) the receiver gets the message, and (5) the receiver responds and sends feedback to the sender. The sender's idea is constructed into a meaningful thought and must be expressed to communicate. Expression involves encoding the idea into a form of information to transmit through a chosen channel from the sender to the receiver. The receiver then decodes, understands, and responds to the message, allowing the sender to get feedback on whether the intended response was produced.

Communication is a process which consist of events or phases that are linked together .

Whether you are writing, speaking or reading, all these phases are present in the communication process .

Phases of communication
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. The sender has an idea. The idea becomes a message. The message is transmitted. The receiver gets the message. The receiver responds and sends a feedback to sender.

Mind constructs the important aspect of the experience into a meaningful thought , which is an idea. So the idea which is invisible has to be expressed in some form or the other in order to communicate.. When you want to express your idea to them ,your mind filters out the details to highlight only those aspect that are relevant. This process is known as Abstraction.

When we wish to express our ideas to others , then the idea has to take a form and become an expression. Expression is an idea put in-form to become information. This is called Encoding. Idea can be expressed in different ways , depending upon the following: a. Subject b. Purpose c. Audience d. Personal style e. Cultural background

There is a physical transmission of message from sender to reciever. Channel is a medium that enables the message to be transmitted from the sender to receiver. The choice of medium depends upon the message , audience, urgency and situation.

The first step in reception of message is Decoding. i.e converting message into thought. Second step is Understanding i.e communication is not complete unless it is understood. Third step in reception of message is Response to the message i.e action.

5. Feedback : Receiver sends his / her response back to the sender. This enables the sender to determine whether the message has been received and produced the intended response.
