Intake Valve:: - Opens at Beginning of Intake Stroke - Allows The Air Fuel Mixture To Enter The Cylinder

The document discusses the operation of intake and exhaust valves in an internal combustion engine. The intake valve opens during the intake stroke to allow the air-fuel mixture into the cylinder. The exhaust valve opens just before the exhaust stroke to allow burnt gases to escape from the cylinder. There are two basic types of valve trains: an overhead camshaft with rocker arms, and a camshaft in the engine block with pushrods. The size of the intake valve is usually larger than the exhaust valve because atmospheric pressure provides the only force to move the air-fuel mixture into the cylinder during intake.

Intake valve is usually larger than exhaust valve Why?????????

When intake valve is open, the only force moving air fuel mixture into the cylinder is atmospheric pressure. Whereas when exhaust valve opens, there is still high pressure in the cylinder. Smaller exhaust valve provides enough space for high pressure gases to escape out of the cylinder.
