Faults in Grinding Wheel

There are two common faults that can occur in grinding wheels: loading and glazing. Loading happens when the spaces between abrasive grains become clogged, preventing the wheel from cutting freely. It can be caused by taking deep cuts, grinding soft materials, using a wheel that is too hard, or not using the proper lubricant. Glazing occurs when worn abrasive grains remain in the wheel, giving it a glass-like appearance and reducing efficiency. Glazing is caused by using a wheel that is too hard, operating at a high wheel speed, or a low work speed. Both faults can be addressed by adjusting wheel and work speeds and depths of cut.

Faults in grinding wheel The two common faults which occurs in grinding wheel Glazing 1) When the interspaced

between the abrasive grains becomes clogged with the particles of the material being ground, the wheel is said to be loaded. 2) Due to loading, the cutting edges do not project sufficiently to do their work and prevent the wheel from cutting freely. 3) Loading may be caused due to By talking deep cut. Grinding a soft material. By using a too hard wheel. By not using a right lubricant

4) The remedy for LOADING is To increase the speed of wheel or use a fine grained and softer wheel.

Glazing 1) Glazing occurs when the grains which have lost their sharpness are still retained by the bond. 2) In glazing the face or cutting edge of the wheel takes a glass like appearance 3) Glazing decreases the cutting efficiency of the wheel. 4) Glazing is caused By using too hard wheel. High wheel speed. Low work speed.

5). It may be reduced by Increasing the work speed Decreasing the wheel speed and Reducing the cut to promote more rapid disintegration of the wheel.
