This document provides instructions for copying formulas across multiple cells in Excel. It explains that putting a $ sign before the row or column reference in a formula will lock that reference so it does not change when the formula is copied to other cells. For example, using $A$2 will always refer to cell A2 even when the formula is pasted elsewhere, while A2 would adjust dynamically based on the row and column of the cell the formula is pasted into.

How do I paste a formula into multiple cells?
if you would cope the same formula, without making change to it put $ sign before the row or collums, then they keep the same instead of being changed Using a $ before the cell reference will make the formula always refer to the same cell, e.g. =$A$2+5 will always refer to cell A2, where as =A2+5 will change depending on where the cell is that you are pasting the formula into.
