Safety Contract

Please read through the following with your child: Labs are an excellent way in which students can really experience for themselves what we learn in class. Labs support what we cover in class through hands on activities and investigations. For labs to run smoothly in the classroom students need to be aware of the safety concerns that and procedures that must be followed. Please be aware of the following: Absolutely NO food or drinks allowed in the lab room ALWAYS be prepared! Please read lab procedures prior to class Proper safety protection must ALWAYS be worn. This may include gloves, lab coat, goggle, closed toe runners, etc. Be AWARE and KNOW the location of all safety equipment fire extinguisher, eye wash station, shower station, fire blanket, gas shut-off, etc. ALWAYS clean glassware using proper techniques after use ALWAYS dispose of material in proper locations ACT RESPONSIBLY

We will go through proper behavior and techniques at the beginning of the year. Students will need to model proper behavior prior to starting labs. If students have any questions throughout the year, it is their responsibility to ask. If procedures cannot be followed, students will be given one warning upon first offence depending on the severity of the situation. If I feel that any student is not able to perform maturely and responsibly during an experiment, it is my responsibility to remove them. Lets make this a fun year! Parent: Student: Date: Date:
