Reading Response 7

1) The writer has had experience with peer editing in classes but does not like having other students assess their work or grading other students' papers because they feel the other students' opinions are not more valid than their own and the feedback goes unappreciated. 2) The most helpful feedback has come from teachers and their mother whose opinions the writer respects and has helped improve their writing. Other students' feedback has been least helpful because the writer does not value their opinions enough to make changes. 3) The writer hopes to get feedback on Wednesday that they can appreciate and use to make positive adjustments to their work.

Sharpless, fall 2012 Reading Response to Straub 1.

) Ive had lots of experience in all of my English classes on responding to peers writings. All throughout my academic career Ive had to peer edit. I personally do not like another student to assess my work because I tend to think what makes their opinion better than mine? I also dont like to grade others papers because I feel like they think the same way. I feel that my constructive criticism goes unappreciated. 2.) The most helpful responses to my work have been from my teachers or my mom. I respect both of their opinions in my writing so they both have helped develop my writing. Again, students have been the least helpful because I dont value their opinion enough to change my work. 3.) Hopefully Ill be able to get some criticism I actually appreciate back on Wednesday so I can make positive adjustments to my work where needed. I hope my fellow writers get a good sense of my writing skills out of my paper and are engaged in my work. 4.) Tell the writer what you got from it, and then worry about giving advice for corrections. This is helpful because it keeps you from focusing on marginal errors. -Make comments in the margins as well as a final note at the end of the paper. This is helpful because you make comments as you go along but also give an overview of the entire paper at the end. -Give detailed comments. This helps the reader understand why you said what you said.
