AME Productions - Planning Brief: Project Name: Length: Deadline: Group Members & Their Roles
Project Name: The Consumer Length: 2 minutes Deadline: 20th December 2012 Group Members & Their Roles Ammaar Khan (Editor), Elise Warlow (Director) & Margaret Ansu (Camera Person) Brief Overview of Content The content is a short 2minute opening sequence of a Thriller. Its about a kidnapper (a middle aged man) who preys on young girls, stalking them until he captures them and takes them back to his garage. Once in the garage he ties them to a table. What he does to the girls is not shown, leaving the audience to their own imaginations. Target Audience Our target audience are people aged 15 -30. Our chosen socio-economic groups are Groups D & E and the bottom end of Group C. This is because most people within our selected age range are unemployed, in full time education, living of benefits, dependent on their parent/careers income or are just at the beginning of the employment ladder meaning they dont earn much but just enough to pay the bills and have a little left over for leisure. They most probably live in a deprived are to. In addition to that, where our film is set will most likely be familiar setting to our chosen target audience because there are garages everywhere. Also there are many garages around council estates and within council estates garages are known to be places of mystery, because who knows what the garage contains apart from the owner of that garage? No one so theres an aspect of curiosity and apprehension. Our product is aimed at both genders but we believe that more males will enjoy the product than females. Comparable Researched Products Weve researched on our chosen genre Thriller. Through this research we have found out about the generic conventions that we must include that would make our Thriller product effective. Our comparable researched products are Criminal Minds and the opening scene of the movie Law abiding Citizen. Rationale behind Text Is to cause the audience to feel enticed by what theyre watching and that itll grab their attentions. Our unique selling point is that weve played upon that child hood question that never really seems to go away, I wonder whats behind that door? As humans were always curious of the unknown. Therefore hopefully after the audience has watched our film, it will
cause them to be start asking that question again and probably cause them to over think what could be behind that garage door on the street that has never seemed to open at day but only opens at night. We currently have no moral for our film. Representations within text We will be using stereotypes representations, hopefully by doing this the audience will get a clear view and idea of what our theme is within our film. For example, The Man will be roughly dressed, in soiled clothing and a Wife Beater vest. This shows that hes a typical bad guy it also conveys violence and uncertainty. Our victim will be dressed in the stereotypical damsel in distress attire looking all casual. How we will check if our product is a success Once our product is complete we will gather groups of people within our target audience. Well show them the product. Once they finish viewing the product we will ask them to fill out a asking them questions related to the product; what they thought of it, if it was effective and in which ways we can improve the product. With this feedback well be able to tweak the areas if the product that were mentioned. Hopefully by doing this we will be able to improve the product and make it the best it can be. Generic codes and conventions Within our product there will be many generic codes and conventions to do with the Thriller Genre. We are only filming in a garage that looks like its been neglected and is very untidy. We will have tools around the room in which we are filming in, giving it that sense of subjected violence. We will also be using low key lighting to create a dark atmosphere as well as flashbacks to confuse the audience about the order of space and time within our movie. All of this will contribute to the sense of suspense within the movie. Overt Messages There are no messages within the product. Hidden Messages There are no hidden messages within our movie. Resource Constraint Due to the fact we are all still in full time education, our budget is very low. However weve been able to find a way for our product to work within our small budget range. We also realize that we are dependent on our actors. We depend on them turning up on time so we can get filming. Then secondly to deliver when we are filming making sure they effectively portray the character we have created.
