Basic Instrumentation and Process Control - Training Course

This course is a must if you maintain or support process controls systems for manufacturing. This intensive course will cover the following topics: Introduction to Instrumentation P & ID Drawing Standards Loop Diagrams Pressure, Level, Temperature and Flow Control Valves Troubleshooting Digital Controllers Advanced Process Control Techniques This course prepares students for the ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST Level 1) exam. This is a four-day course with day four dedicated to the student who desires to become ISA certified. There will be a review of all of the covered subjects, a question and answer session and a review of examination taking procedures. This will be followed by a final practice examination that will be graded and reviewed in detail. The course includes a detailed organized binder for easy reference. Day 1 1. Introduction to Instrumentation - Introduction to the concepts of Basic Measurements and Process Control. 2. P&ID Drawing Standards - The need for standards; Purpose, Scope, Applications, Format, Standard Symbols, References and Functions; Drawing Examples, Creation and Review. 3. Instrument Loop Diagrams - Purpose of Loop Diagrams, Types of Loops, Reading and Interpreting Loop Diagrams, Electronic and Pneumatic Loops. Day 2 1. Pressure - Analog Electronic, Smart, D/P, Gage - Theory of Operation, Input and Output Measurement Standards, Installation Connections, Calibration Checks, Transmitter Calibration, Five Point Check, Troubleshooting and Discussion Questions. 2. Level Methods of Level Sensing, Theory of Operation, Input and Output Measurement Standards, Installation Connections, Calibration Checks, Transmitter Calibration, Five Point Check, Troubleshooting and Discussion Questions. 3. Temperature - Thermocouple and RTD - Theory of Operation, Input and Output Measurement Standards, Installation Connections, Calibration Checks, Transmitter Calibration, Three Point Check, Troubleshooting and Discussion Questions. Day 3 1. Flow Orifice plate, vortex, mag meters, bubblers. Theory of Operation, Input and Output Measurement Standards, Installation Connections, Calibration Checks, Transmitter Calibration, Five Point Check, Troubleshooting and Discussion Questions. 2. Control Valves - Theory of Operation, Types of Control Valves, Input and Output Measurement Standards, Installation Connections, Calibration Checks, Troubleshooting and Discussion Questions. Day 4 1. Control Valves Continued

2. Digital Controllers Digital Controller Technology, Process Control, P, I and D Control Modes and Troubleshooting. Tuning Tuning Principles, The Ultimate Method, Trial and Error. Safety Issues - Importance of Field Devices, Sensors and Final Elements, Redundancy, Design Requirements, Installation Concerns, Wiring and Testing Field Devices. 3. Process Control -Various types of in house systems displayed and discussed.
