PINK DAY Breast Cancer Awareness


GWAPA would like to thank all parents and children for their generosity and support to help us raise money to donate to Brest Friends. The day was a huge success and early estimates are around Dhs 8000 and may be even more. A cheque will be handed over as soon as we have all monies accounted for. THANKS AGAIN. Fall Festival
November
Fall Festival seasonal celebration anyone is welcome to create a small stand that teaches other about a special celebration from their country, religion or nationality on a day that is open for all children, parents and staff to visit. It is a full day fair at school and we ask parents to step forward to help arrange this great day! Please contact Sybil: [email protected]

Dragons Den
Relocated & OPEN for business

We have moved!! Come and visit us next to the Coffee Shop. We are open every morning from 8 9 am and in the afternoons; Sun Wed 3 4 pm and Thurs 1 2 pm. The GWAPA Dragons Den stocks both new and nearly new uniform items as well as accessories (including USBs) to which we will be adding many interesting "seasonal" items to our selection, such as gift items for special occasions like Christmas, Mother's Day, and other school occasions. Our idea is to make the Dragons Den part of the GWA environment, and a bond that connect our families.

English Instructor Needed


We need a volunteer to offer English classes for parents in school for 1 hour per week.
Can you offer 1 hour per week? Would you like to help parents with their English speaking skills? GWA can offer you the space if you can volunteer your time. If you can help please contact Ann on: [email protected].

Welcome to the team. Here are the Executive Committee and Subcommittee Members The committee has overwhelming support from our parents and as many of our parents are new to the school and to Dubai, it is great to welcome them too. We look forward to a great year, some brilliant events and any support should you need it.

Chair
Ann Rubenius is chairing GWAPA this year and is focused on providing good service to all GWA students, parents, teachers and staff. GWAPA is run by 18 devoted people who will coordinate all our activities and engage parents in fun and meaningful events. Vice-Chair
Ilana Meyer is our Vice-Chair. I have always enjoyed being part of my sons school activities and there is no better way than the parents association to show your support and make a difference. As the vice chairperson I am here to support Ann and the broader committee in whatever way possible and given my background I will take a specific interest in helping with the marketing and sponsorship side of all our events.

Treasurer
Christi Jefferson is our GWAPA Treasurer and will be taking the lead in managing our finances, balancing our books and fundraised money.

Secretary
We Need You. We are looking for a secretary to be part of the executive group in GWAPA, close to the every day decisions we have to make - making sure agenda's and minutes are ready and taking initiative to organize procedures and documentation. You will be part of a very dynamic and open team that has a lot of fun. Come and join us, now is your opportunity! Please contact Ann if interested at [email protected].

UAE/Arabic Representative
Hind Al-Janahi is our UAE Representative, currently busy conducting very popular Arabic classes for GWAPA parents every Sunday 9-10 am at GWA. Arranging UAE National day on November 29th and coordinating activities and contact to the local community are other priorities.

New Parents Representative

This role is urgently needed to be filled, as it is a priority for GWAPA this year to set up a network to welcome our new families to GWA - we want to connect new students to fellow students who speak the same language, we want to help families adjust quicker and with less trouble into their new life in Dubai and GWA. Dragons Den
Mona Osman is our new Manager of the GWAPA Dragons Den. I just want to share with you my excitement about the opportunity to add more value to the shopping experience parents and students get from the Dragon Shop. Stay tuned for more exciting announcements over the next few weeks. In the meantime, feel free to drop by and check our new and nearly new items. I would love to meet you in the morning or afternoon.

Sports Representative

EC Representative
Lottie Khan is the Early Childhood (PreK, Kg1 and Kg2) parent representative/ coordinator. I aim to bring the class mums together so that we can support each other and organize fun social events. Come and say hello - particularly if you would like to get involved or have any suggestions or issues you would like to raise with me. Alternatively, please feel free to email me on [email protected].

MYP/DP Representative
Nathalie Cooper is our MYP/DP (Grades 6-12) representative/coordinator. I look forward to meeting many of you as the year progresses and organizing fun events for the students and parents. Dont forget that some of the events can count towards DP CAS hours, so lets get the DP students involved as much as possible. If there is a particular event that you or your children would like to create which can benefit the school, we are always looking for new fundraising ideas, so dont hesitate to get in touch via email [email protected]

PYP Representative
Neeta Singh is our new PYP (Grade 1 5) representative/coordinator. My aim is to come together as pillar of strength with teachers and parents to share, talk, encourage and learn with kids and enjoy their growing age. [email protected]

Canteen & Nutrition Representative

Dragona Rancic is our Canteen and Nutrition Representative. I believe that good food habits and healthy nutrition are skills for life, and hope to improve the cafeteria even further in terms of options and quality. A lot as been done by GWAPA already, but we are always looking for more ideas, so please get in touch and let me know your suggestions. [email protected]

Marketing & Sponsorship Representative


We are looking for a Marketing and Sponsorship representative to help us in this area. If you have interest or any skills in this area and want to be part of our amazing and fun committee please contact Ann at [email protected].

Music, Art & Drama Rep


Summer Kendall is our Music, Art & Drama representative and will be working with these school departments to encourage parental support for events, as well as practical help.

Calendar Representative

Patricia Haddad is currently setting up a team to create a new and exiting calendar for GWAPA year 2013/14. We are still looking Sponsorship and Marketing Representative and if anyone has any ideas for next years calendar, or would like to sponsor us, please let us know.

Coffee Morning Representative


Faith Ansell was our Chairperson last year and has taken on the role this year of coffee mornings and gatherings. She will be organizing informative and fun, supportive and exciting mornings where we can come together as a GWA family and enjoy.

Events Representative
Sybil Hyde is the Events Coordinator for GWAPA this year. I have taken on this crazy task of coordinating events this year and my goal is to bring fun to the school! Please feel free to email me any suggestions or ideas. Pink day was the 22nd Oct and we thank those who donated cupcakes and volunteered!

Lost Property Representative


Lindi Mosert is our Lost Property representative. This year we will have campaigns to make students and parents more aware of labeling items with the students first and last name. We regularly return named items to classrooms, which is very rewarding. At the end of each semester, lost items whose owners cannot be found will be donated to the Dragons Den or given away for charity.

IT & Communications Rep


Jane Board is our liaison with the IT & Communications departments of school. I want to help our communication run smoothly and efficiently so that we all have access to the communication that we need. I also will be helping the committee with posters, artwork and this Gazette. I would love some help, please contact [email protected]."
