NATIONAL SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAM CIVIC WELFARE TRAINING SERVICE COLLEGEDEPARTMENT COURSE SYLLABUS Course Title Course Code Credit : Civic Welfare Training Service Course : NSTP 1 and 2 : 6 units

Course Description This course is one (1) of the three (3) components under the National Service Training Program Act of 2001 (R.A. No. 9163) designed to encourage, develop and train student to contribute to the general welfare and the betterment of life for the members of the community or the enhancement of its facilities, especially those devoted to improving health, education, environment, entrepreneurship, safety, recreation and moral of the citizenry and other social welfare services. It consists of lectures on values education, transformational leadership, and social mobilization. On its second semester, it requires the actual involvement of the trainees with projects and activities for a given community. Course Objectives At the end of the training, the students should be able to: explain the concept and processes of values education and transformational leadership within the framework of national development interpret the basic concepts of Development Management and its application in civic welfare projects for a given community identify develop and / or design appropriate development approaches for implementing projects to benefit a given community apply the knowledge and skills acquired by carrying out the projects identified evaluate the project(s) undertaken by the respective groups in the assigned community recognize their vital role in nation-building, promote civic consciousness among them express ideas effectively in different team building and bonding activities participate actively and develop their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social well being

Requirements and Grading System There are five basic requirements of the CWTS Program 1. Lecture / discussion / consultation sessions 2. Project consultations with the CWTS INSTRUCTOR 3. Project implementation (includes proposal, documentation ) 4. Recitations, assignments and quizzes 5. Participation in community development activities and projects The percentage distribution of grades by semester First Semester Class Participation and attendance Quizzes and written assignments Aptitude Rating (merits and demerits) TOTAL Second Semester Attendance Project Formulation, Content and Documentation Project Implementation Aptitude Rating (merits and demerits) TOTAL 35% 45% 20% 100% 20% 25% 35% 20% 100%
