Printing

via HTTPS on the Follow Me queue Delft University of Technology

This HOWTO will help you add a printer to your Linux desktop. It is aimed at HTTPS-printing on Linux desktops that are not supported by Delft University of Technology (ie Non-Suse 11). For specific information about adding printers, consult your distribution-specific documentation. HTTPS printing may not be available on your Linux distribution. If it is not, either change to a Linux distribution that supports HTTPS printing or use SMB printing instead. For other HOWTOs visit the website. 1 In the list below pick the correct follow me for your Faculty (ie. FollowMe-<Faculty>) SRV659.tudelft.net/printers/FollowMe-IO/.printer SRV660.tudelft.net/printers/FollowMe-3ME/.printer SRV661.tudelft.net/printers/FollowMe-BK/.printer SRV663.tudelft.net/printers/FollowMe-CiTG/.printer SRV659.tudelft.net/printers/FollowMe-EWI/.printer SRV660.tudelft.net/printers/FollowMe-LR/.printer SRV661.tudelft.net/printers/FollowMe-TBM/.printer SRV662.tudelft.net/printers/FollowMe-TNW/.printer SRV663.tudelft.net/printers/FollowMe-UD/.printer 2 3 Download the printer driver (PPD file) from the server from this site https://srv655.tudelft.net/ppd/index.htm To add the printer queue, open the printing dialog and add a new printer. Choose https (not available in all distributions), enter the Full Network Name for the printer you found in the step1. (for example IO:SRV655.tudelft.net/printers/FollowMe-IO/.printer) Then, in the Choose Driver dialog, choose Provide PPD file and select the PPD you downloaded earlier. Click Forward. In the Describe Printer dialog, set the names as you see fit and click Apply.

Note: When you print, you will have to authenticate. You may have to Release the document before being able to authenticate. This behaviour differs between Linux distributions. After sending the print job to the queue, you can use any printer to get your document printed by authenticating with your Campus Card. For more information, see the website. There is an issue with HTTPS-printing and authentication where the job will fail on your computer but be sent to the printer and be succesfully printed. To avoid this, you can set the Error Policy to abort-job in the Policies menu. A side effect of this is that any job you send to the printer will be completed (either success or abort) and not be retried in case of failure. To avoid this, you can use SMB printing.
