SAFETY SYMBOLS
Corrosive Chemical cause burns if it comes into contact with the skin.
Toxic Could cause harm if the chemical comes into contact with skin, if ingested or if vapors are breathed in.
Harmful to the environment Will cause harm to living organisms if released into the environment.
Irritant Damages skin or eyes if they come into contact with the chemical.
SAFETY SYMBOLS
Carcinogen
Carcinogen Chemical can cause cancer if it comes into contact with the body or is ingested.
Dangerously reactive React violently under conditions of shock or an increase in pressure or temperature and also with water to release a toxic gas.
Biohazardous infectious material Cause disease or are believed to cause disease in either humans or animals. For example, a blood sample containing the Hepatitis B virus is a biohazardous infectious material.
SAFETY SYMBOLS
Poison More general symbol for the transport of poisonous materials (not necessarily a gas).
SAFETY SYMBOLS
Poisonous Gas. Used for transport of a poisonous gas - on gas cylinders, or sometimes as an indicator on vehicles.
Oxidizing chemical! Materials that spontaneously evolve oxygen at room temperature or with slight heating and promote combustion. To be kept away from flammable chemicals at all costs.
Corrosive Transport of corrosive materials - again, avoids contact with the skin.
SAFETY SYMBOLS
Non flammable gas Safety symbol used in the transport of non flammable (and hence often non hazardous, at least out in the open) gases.
