Journal Prompt 3: Personal Writing Study

PART I DUE: Wednesday, September 19, by 11:59PM First, list five important things that youve written. Make sure that each is representative of a different aspect of your writing life: perhaps one of these essays was fantastic/ dreadful, and another of the essays was the first time youd completed an outline, and another was a timed writing in class. One was easy to write, or one gave you writers block, etc. This list should be posted by Wednesday (9/19, 11:59PM).

PART II DUE: Monday, September 24th, by 11:59PM Over the course of the next several days, you will write a short personal narrative for a minimum of three of these pieces on your list, and you will discuss either (a) your own writing habits, and how they were different from piece to piece, (b) your overall writing process with each piece, or (c) you will analyze the full text of your piece and discuss why you think (from your current perspective) your writing in each piece is effective/ ineffective. But heres the thing: each of these personal narratives must be written on a different day, and you must vary your writing habits with each narrative. Perhaps you write one of the narratives in the morning, and another at night; perhaps you write one on the computer, and another by hand (pen and paper); perhaps you write one in your dorm room, and another in a quiet cubicle in the library. Whatever your choice, make sure to keep track of how you adapt to each different writing habit. And keep in mind, if you choose to write one by hand (which I recommend for at least one of them), you can them transcribe it onto your blog but just note that you originally composed it by hand. **If you dont write them in this fashion, you are choosing not to engage in the point of this activity, and your work will ultimately be pointless.

PART III: Reflection DUE: Wednesday, September 26th, by 11:59PM Write a short reflection (about 250 words) in which you discuss your most successful hours/places, and your least successful. Why do you think this is the case? When we think of successful, we mean, how much were you able to write during that time and in a certain location.
