Police

The document is a persuasive speech outline arguing that police should be held accountable for their actions when using deadly force. The outline introduces the topic and thesis, which is that police officers are not being held accountable for their actions and are "getting away with murder". The body of the speech argues that police use deadly force when unnecessary because they know it will be justified, and that the problem can be solved with better police training, unbiased media coverage of police shootings, and skepticism from the public about whether police actions are always valid. The conclusion restates the call for police accountability and that killings by police can be unjustifiably ruled as murder regardless of the victim's gender or race.

Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience that police should be held accountable for their

actions when using deadly force.

My thesis statement/preview: In the discussion of police should be held accountable for their

actions, I will show that police officers are not being held accountable for their actions and

getting away with murder.

I. Introduction

A. Have you ever been pulled over or stopped by the police? Do you know the proper

protocol or procedure when dealing with police officers?

B. Which leads me to my topic that police should be held accountable for their actions

when using deadly force.

C. I am a Sociology-Criminology major and I love learning about anything that has to do

with corrections and the justice system. Also, I have taken several classes with Dr. Chriss,

including the US criminal justice system. He has written several books, used as an expert

testimony in cases, and interviewed several times by reporters from the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

D. Today I would like to show you that police officers are not being held accountable for

their actions and getting away with murder.

Body

II. Police officers are using deadly force when they do not have to because they know it will be

justified

A. Police are supposed to follow protocol when interacting with people, such as drop the

weapon.
B. Police have a script that they can follow when a shooting occurred.

III. The problem can be solved with better police training, better media display on police

shootings, and people attitudes towards police shootings.

A. Police officers should get better training on using deadly force.

B. The media should not influence the attitudes of the public that what the police did

should be tolerated.

C. People should not always believe that the actions of the police are always valid.

IV. Conclusion

A. Overall police officers need to be held accountable for their actions

B. No, matter what gender or race, police can kill someone and have the murder be

justified.
