Difference Between Flowchart and Data Flow Diagram

Flowcharts present the steps to complete a process and show the timing and sequence of steps, but do not show input/output between external sources. Data flow diagrams (DFDs) describe the flow of data through a system from external sources into internal storage and processing and vice versa. DFDs define system functionality by showing the path of data needed to complete a process, whereas flowcharts show how to make a function. Both are used in design, but flowcharts focus on processes and DFDs focus on data movement between external and internal system components.
