Low Forward Power Protection

The generator will continue to run for a short time after the turbine trips due to low steam pressure, as steam trapped in the turbine provides residual power. This situation is called low forward power. Special vent doors in modern turbines release trapped steam when the turbine trips to prevent low forward power events. Generator protection systems have different classes - Class A trips the generator breaker for faults including low forward power, Class B trips the turbine and generator breakers for differential and earth faults, and Class C trips the grid breaker for over/under frequency and voltage to avoid a plant-wide blackout from tripping the generator for undervoltage.

Low Forward Power Protection The Generator will run still since there some steam trapped in Turbine.

This suitation is called Low Forward Power since there is not enough Steam to run the Generator in desired speed. This occurs because of some trapped steam in turbine for some seconds. Now Days special vents doors are designed in turbine to release these steam on account of tripping of turbines. But Normally in protection Trip Logic of Generators there will be Class:A,Class:B,Class:C For Class A Gen Breaker will trip for below faults U/V Stage-2 , O/V , Low Forward Power,Reverse Reactive power,Neg Ph Seq ,Over Voltage. For Class B Turbine Breaker will Trip which also trip Gen breaker instantly for below faults. Differential protection , Restricted Earth Fault ..... For Class C Grid Breaker will trip for below faults Over Frequency and Under Frequency Under Voltage stage-1 and Over voltage. Because when you trip Gen Breaker for Undervoltage it will result in whole plant black out so for stage-1 tripping of grid breaker will do.similarly for All turbine faults the Gen Breaker is tripped so that it is isolated from the system.
