Science Mrs. Smith What is this class about? If you read the newspaper or watch the news ever You probably have heard about the ozone layer, greenhouse effect. Maybe you know what these are or maybe not I GUARANTEE YOU WILL BY THE END OF THE YEAR!!! Have you ever wondered what happens to all of our GARBAGE??? During the semester we will talk about: The quality of the air Air pollution Water pollution Energy in its many forms We will deRinitely talk about other topics as well. If there is a topic (serious) of concern that you would like to discuss let me know and I will see where we can Rit it in!! Are there any special materials that I need for this class? I have a classroom set of calculators for use in the classroom and for tests. If you need a calculator outside of my class you will need to buy your own. You will need a folder or binder and paper for note taking and organization. A separate 2 subject notebook for labs, activities, and journals that can be turned in. Writing utensils. Important Information MOODLE, GOOGLE CALENDAR, & TURNITIN.COMAll of these will be used on a regular basis. The passcode for Moodle is 5298490. We will use turnitin.com to turn some work in. The class ID is 5298490 and the password is science. Your level of achievement in here really depends on your EFFORT! I have never met anyone that did not want to succeed. However, there is a huge difference in wanting to succeed and WANTING TO DO THE WORK IT WILL TAKE TO SUCCEED How am I going to be graded in this class? Classwork, Postive participation, Homework, quizzes, activities, laboratories and tests will make up your grade. My grading scale is as follows: I will be using categories to calculate your Rinal grade. The categories will be divided as follows: Final Exam 20% **Final exams will be cumulative Tests and quizzes 20% Labs/Activities 15% **There will be work done outside of class for labs. Projects 15% **Projects will be individual or group. Some time outside of class will be needed for projects. Journals & Articles 20% ** These will be done outside of class. Responsibility 10% **use of bathroom, preparedness, homework, & citizenship. Your Class Dojo account will be used to track this.

**Grades that are on the border line, can help to be determined by your attendance, missing assignments, attitude, and effort in and out of class etc. Extra-credit information can be found on Google Calendar. As your teacher, what am I expecting from you? 1. I expect an honest effort on your part. That means coming to class on time and prepared, paying attention in class, attempting all of your homework, etc. I realize there may be times when you are going to struggle and I am not after perfection. I am after your BEST effort! 2. Students who fail this class are the students that miss this class! (if you dont do your work, you might have trouble passing as well)!!! Any notes you miss you will need to get from another student in the class. If you miss class for a school activity you must pick up your assignments ahead of time. I will not constantly remind you of work that needs to be done. 3. Academic honesty includes doing all of your own work and NOT sharing your work with others. If you are caught cheating you will receive a zero for the assignment. Do not ask your friends to jeopardize their grades. 4. Absences: If you missed work and you were unexcused you will receive a0 for that work. If you were excused you have two times as long as you were gone to make up work. For example, if you were sick for 2 days you have 4 days to make-up the work. After that time frame it will not be accepted. If you need more time than this you MUST talk to me. Science Department Policy on Late Work 1. Late work will not be accepted unless you are on the PASS list. You will be allowed to do enough missing work to get yourself off of the PASS list. Late work will not be graded and the gradebook will not be updated unless you are present with me in my classroom and the times for this are before or after school or during break. 2. Test corrections will only be allowed if you are on the PASS list. They can be done in order to get you off the PASS list. You must have all of your missing work completed and turned in order to do test corrections. Test corrections will be done before or after school in my classroom. **The science department has the same policy on the acceptance of late work, as individual teachers we might have differing policies on how it is assessed. Around Town Field Trips There will be times we leave school ground on foot and sometimes on a bus for a Rield trip during the class time. If there is ever a trip that your student will be on outside of Belleville/Paoli area you will receive a separate permission form.
