D. Sue Sather OBITUARY
Sue Sather passed away peacefully in Watsonville, surrounded by her family, while listening to her grandson’s baseball game on March 8th, 2024. Sue was born in Santa Cruz on September 15, 1935, to Gordon and Gladys Webster. Sue’s father passed away when she was only three years old. After his death, Sue, her mother, and sister, moved to San Jose to live with family. She graduated from Willow Glen High School in 1953, and then attended two years of nursing school, San Francisco State.
Sue met George Sather, who was in the navy through a mutual friend in Capitola, they married on June 21, 1956. They had three children together. Sue worked a variety of jobs, including as a nurse at Dominican Hospital. Sue was very modest, but had many skills, including as a seamstress. She loved to make beautiful clothing, including costumes for her children during the annual Soquel parade and for Halloween. More recently she made a beautiful Elsa dress for her granddaughter, Dakota. The family also loved Sue’s delicious meals, especially her famous cheesecake.
Sue always put others before herself, was very generous, and never forgot a birthday or holiday. Sue never wanted to inconvenience others. She lived a simple, honest life and took pleasure in the simple things. She was witty and sharp up until her passing, and shared wonderful memories of her past. We will miss her. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Gladys Webster, her sister Dolores, and her husband, George. She is survived by her children Terry Legions, Greg Sather (Michele), Gary Sather, her grandchildren Jacob Legions (Sarah), Ryan Legions (Jennifer), Jeremy Sather (Katie), Matthew Sather, Joshua Sather (Johanna), Jennifer Sather and her great grandchildren, Brody, Dakota, Payton, Jace, Sadie, Lainey, and Jaxon. The immediate family will gather in remembrance of Sue.
