Driver Inattention

is cited as the State’s largest contributing circumstance in crashes annually and was a cited reason in 26.1% of all crashes reported in 2020.

Impairment

21% of all fatalities in 2020 involved alcohol. 9% of fatal crashes involved drugs.

Speeding

was a contributing driver action in about 12,539 crashes – 6.4% of all crashes and over 17.8% of all fatalities.

Failure to Yield

was the third-most common circumstance in crashes (16,856 in 2020). 1.7% involved bicyclists.

Emphasis Area Teams developed goals, objectives, strategies and action plans to address their respective topics.
