Maryland OFR Seeks Comments on Proposal Affecting Mortgage Loan Originators

The Maryland Commissioner of Financial Regulation is seeking public comments on a proposed rule change affecting mortgage loan originators. The proposed amendment would increase the fees required to apply for or renew a mortgage loan originator license. There changes aim to reduce the industry's overall assessments by generating more revenue through licensing fees.

Proposed Fee Changes

Here's what is being proposed:

  • Application investigation fee: Increase from $1 to $50
  • Initial license fee (1-year term): Increase from $225 to $275
  • Renewal fee (1-year term): Increase from $225 to $275

How to Comment
If you would like to comment on the proposed change, you can contact Amy Hennen at the Office of Financial Regulation by:

  • Mail: 100 S. Charles St., Tower 1, Suite 5300, Baltimore, MD 21231
  • Phone: 410-230-6094
  • Email: [email protected]

Comments will be accepted until May 5, 2025.
