Push*Back*Lash*: Forum on Democracy and Gender Equality

The Push*Back*Lash*  research consortium cordially invites you to the Forum on Democracy and Gender Equality on September 25, 2025, in Salzburg, Austria. The Forum will take place from 9:00-19:30 and bring together leading academic experts on gender equality and democracy, civil society organizations and policymakers to discuss and contextualize project findings and impact, showcase toolkits, and co-create evidence-based solutions and recommendations.

The Forum will feature a series of thematic panels and roundtable discussions with researchers, civil society organizations, and policymakers. It will provide ample time for discussion and audience engagement during the panels and throughout the day to create space for an interactive exchange of diverse perspectives.

*About the Project

Gender equality is an ongoing struggle, and there is still a long way to go to achieve full equality of rights and opportunities between men and women. At the same time, movements against gender equality are gaining traction globally, weakening democracies. The EU-funded Push*Back*Lash project looks at the backlash against feminism and gender equality and its impact on democracy in the EU and the UK. It examines anti-equality debates in party discourses, government agendas and social media, as well as citizens' attitudes towards democracy and feminism. The project develops evidence-based strategies that can effectively counteract anti-gender and anti-feminist discourses.
