Draft Environmental Assessment for Phase 4 of the Viaduct Drainage Improvements Project

Phase 4 of the Flossmoor Road Viaduct Drainage Improvements Project is anticipated to be completed in 2025. The Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) of this project is currently in the 30-day public review period through April 22, 2025, through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chicago District (USACE) per Section 219 of the Water Resources Development Act of 1992. The recommended plan includes the installation of 300 feet of 72-in. diameter Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP) storm sewer and 130 linear ft. of 12-in. RCP storm sewer along Sterling Avenue from Maryland Avenue towards the Flossmoor Road Viaduct. Construction would be conducted through an open-cut trench and includes the removal of existing 10- to 42-in. storm sewer and roadway reconstruction with curb and gutter rehab in the public right-of-way. USACE would appreciate any public comments or concerns associated with any potential effects to environmental and cultural resources related to the proposed action.

The Draft Environmental Assessment is available here...
