Financial assistance is available for pet owners with limited incomes

In observance of February as Spay/Neuter Awareness Month, Lincoln Animal Control today reminded residents the importance of spaying or neutering their pets.

"We encourage residents to spay or neuter their pets. It helps control overpopulation and may also prevent medical and behavioral issues, allowing pets to lead longer, healthier and happier lives," said Denise Bollwitt, Animal Control Manager.

Animal Control offers financial assistance to pet owners with limited incomes for part of the cost of spay/neuter services. Contact Lincoln Animal Control at 402-441-7900 for more information. Lincoln Animal Control helped 76 pet owners spay or neuter their pets through its assistance program in fiscal year 2023-2024.

Additional benefits of spaying or neutering pets include:

  • Pets will be calmer, more obedient and affectionate, and will get along better with other pets.
  • Pets will be less susceptible to certain types of cancer.
  • Pets will be less likely to roam.
  • Pet owners can save money on yearly pet licensing fees.
