New initiative equips residents with essential tools to control severe bleeding before first responders arrive
BRAMPTON, ON (March 24, 2025) - The City of Brampton is among the first cities in Ontario to integrate Stop the Bleed® kits into public facilities, enhancing emergency preparedness and community safety. As part of the internationally recognized Stop the Bleed® program, the City is installing these life-saving kits at City Hall, Cassie Campbell Community Centre and Gore Meadows Community Centre as a pilot project, with plans for future expansion.

Each bleed control kit contains essential equipment, including a tourniquet designed to control severe limb injuries by applying targeted pressure to stop blood flow. These kits are installed next to automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at participating locations, ensuring quick access in emergencies.
Originating after the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy, Stop the Bleed® is a public awareness campaign led by the American College of Surgeons. The program provides training and tools that empower bystanders to take immediate action in severe bleeding emergencies, much like CPR does for cardiac arrest.
With growing interest in Stop the Bleed® across Canada, Brampton continues to explore expansion opportunities to provide more residents with critical emergency response resources.
