ROCHESTER — Gov. Tim Walz, who has spent time in recent weeks holding events in states such as Nebraska and Wisconsin, is set to have a town hall in Rochester on Saturday.

The town hall will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. The location of the event has not been announced.

"Folks are sick of Trump’s agenda hurting everyone from farmers to teachers to veterans. And even if your Republican congressman doesn't want to listen, they're going to hear from us anyway," an event summary reads on the Minnesota DFL website site.

The event comes as Republican members of Congress — including 1st District Rep. Brad Finstad — have been criticized for not hosting town halls of their own.

"If your Republican representative won't meet with you because their agenda is so unpopular, maybe a Democrat will," Walz posted on X earlier this month. "Hell, maybe I will. If your congressman refuses to meet, I'll come host an event in their district to help local Democrats beat 'em."

So far, he has held events in Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin.

The Olmsted County GOP released a statement Wednesday evening, calling Saturday's event "nothing more than the same political theater Americans soundly rejected at the ballot box in November."

"This event, hosted by the Minnesota DFL, will give the Governor a 'safe' audience to spread the same divisive and hateful language we've seen on his publicity tour thus far. Governor Walz has weirdly claimed that he 'could kick most of (Republicans') ass' and that his masculinity 'scares' them. If so, why is this event not public?"

The statement went on to criticize Walz for being away from Minnesota.

"Governor Walz hasn’t held a town hall as Governor to discuss the issues his own party and administration have caused, but he’s happy to do so now that he and his party were soundly rejected and have no power in the federal government," the statement said. "Saturday’s event will prove to be nothing more than a typical Tim Walz media stunt. But hey, maybe he’ll actually answer questions from Minnesota media before he has to jet off to another state that he doesn’t represent?"

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
