South Carolina hosted another group of prospects for Saturday’s game with Missouri.
Three were scheduled for official visits: tight end Mike Tyler of Hammond, offensive tackle Kevin Peay of Lancaster and cornerback Michael Clayton of Warner Robins, Ga. Tyler has been committed to LSU, Peay to Georgia Tech and Clayton to Rutgers. The Gamecocks also had in town many of their 2025 and 2026 commitments for the final SEC home game.
They also had back for a second time this season 2026 DE Katrell Webb (6-3, 240) of Suwanee, Ga. He also visited for the LSU game. The Gamecocks have been recruiting Webb for the last couple of years, but it wasn’t always for edge rusher.
“I kind of got the vibe from them early on in my recruitment process,” Webb said prior to his visit. "Early on my offer was for offense. The tight end coach, Jody Wright, had offered me. I went to camp this summer, and I got my offer for the defense working with Coach (Sterling) Lucas. I like it up there. I can see myself fitting into their program. I know they are producing good talent right now. I know Coach Lucas, I can trust him, trust in his coaching. I know he can get me to that next level. My recruitment is high with them because I know he’s going to produce good talent.”
The Gamecocks on defense have made a living this season with the speed of their edge rushers. Webb said he showed Lucas in camp that he fits into that category.
“When I went there for camp, he liked my speed,” Webb said. “Nobody blocked me that day at edge. He just kept telling me to work my speed. When I countered from speed, he liked my power, that I could do both. I can be a fluid rusher. There’s not many things that I can’t do. I can bend. I can rush the passer. I can go through the tackle if I need to.”
This season Webb has 11 sacks and 25 tackles for loss, along with 55 total tackles. He has also been to games this season at Georgia Tech, Indiana, Auburn and Alabama. He also took in the Clemson vs Georgia game in Atlanta at the invitation of Clemson. He plans to visit Miami and then Indiana again. And he is closing in on a decision.
“I could be committed after this season because I’ll be finishing up my visits,” Webb said. "I’ve pretty much visited all my top schools. I’ll probably go up to Michigan, and I’ll probably visit Tennessee again before I commit.”
Webb said at this point the schools standing out the most to him because of their interest are USC, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Indiana, Ole Miss, LSU and Miami.
Some other prospects who were expected to visit USC on Saturday included: DE Jared Smith (Auburn commitment); WR Donovan Murph; QB/ATH AJ Brand (Virginia Tech commitment); 2026 OT Micah Smith; 2026 CB Samari Matthews; 2026 OT G’nivre Carr; 2026 OG Tre Aiken; 2026 OT Malcolm Gaston; 2027 QB Champ Smith.
• Christ Church WR Jackson Repp (5-8, 160) came into this season with lofty expectations both for his team and for himself. He was coming off a junior season of 63 catches for 1,510 yards and 27 touchdowns. He also earned an offer from USC receivers coach Mike Furrey after turning in a blazing 40 time at camp.
But his season ended prematurely. Repp suffered a torn ACL and partially torn meniscus in mid-September. He underwent surgery a few weeks later and is now well on the road to a full recovery. The good recruiting news for Repp is Furrey and USC coach Shane Beamer did not blink when they got the news of his injury. They have stood behind their offer and still want him in the program.
“I have talked with Coach Beamer about my situation. I wanted to make sure that nothing has changed,” Repp said. “I didn’t expect them to (withdraw the offer), but I just wanted to make sure they still honored it. They were all good with it. They were very encouraging, saying my best football is ahead of me. That was really great to hear, how much support and faith they have in me for my future. That really meant a lot.”
Repp was only able to make one game visit after his injury, and that was to USC for the LSU game. Repp is returning to USC for an official visit this weekend when the Gamecocks play Wofford in their home finale. Repp said he could have made the official visit earlier, but he wanted to get his knee in a better place first.
“I wanted to be able to enjoy my visit,” Repp said. “I didn’t want to go on my visit and be on crutches and in pain. I wanted to make sure I was far enough out from surgery that I can enjoy my visit.”
And he does plan on doing that. Repp doesn’t have any other visits scheduled and said he’s planning on making his final decision not too long after the weekend in Columbia.
• OC Jimmy Bryson (6-3, 280) of Chattanooga has been the center of attention for both USC and Georgia Tech. He committed to Tech in early June, and the Gamecocks have been trying to turn him since offering him in October.
Bryson has given the Gamecocks a good, hard look. He visited unofficially for the Ole Miss game and officially for the Texas A&M weekend. He has, of course, also visited Georgia Tech multiple times, including last weekend for the Miami game. So, he witnessed his two top teams upset top 10 ranked teams. Both times he joined the home fans and stormed the field.
“South Carolina was crazy, but I’ve been committed to Tech, so it felt a little bit more like home, but both were crazy,” Bryson said.
Now, he’s getting down to the business of making the decision of whether to stick with Tech or flip to the Gamecocks.
“I’m kind of seeing where I fit in the best at and where I can find a home,” Bryson said. “South Carolina, it’s SEC ball, great connection with the coaches and the energy around the whole city of Columbia is insane. Georgia Tech, it’s the coaches, the degree and playing time early, that’s big for me.”
Bryson said he plans to major in pre-med, and at Georgia Tech that would translate into biochemistry. Coaches from both schools are checking with him daily. From USC that includes Beamer, offensive line coach Lonnie Teasley and strength coach Luke Day. Bryson said at this point he’s between a 6 and an 8 on a scale of 10 regarding his proximity to a decision.
• After visiting South Carolina for the Texas A&M game and getting caught up in the excitement of the Gamecocks big win, DT Kelten Mickell (6-2, 295) of Jones JC, Miss., talked as if he was ready to wrap up his recruiting and commit to Beamer. But it’s going to be late November now before Mickell firms up his plans. He visited Kansas State over the weekend and plans to visit Tennessee this coming weekend. After the visit to Knoxville, he will take two to three days to sort through things and make his decision. He has also made official visits to Liberty, UTSA and Utah State along with the one to USC. He has been committed to Liberty, but he is now looking at the bigger options. Mickell said he continues to hear regularly from USC recruiter Travian Robertson and spoke with him again on Saturday. He watched the Gamecocks take down Vanderbilt and said he was impressed again with the play of the defense. This season Mickell has been in on 32 tackles with four tackles for loss and one sack.
• Former Clemson CB commitment Graceson Littleton committed to Texas.
• Clemson and USC are in the final five with 2026 CB Chaston Smith of Knoxville with a commitment coming Dec. 1. The others on the short list are Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Indiana.
• 2026 QB Michael Clayton (6-4, 200) of Orlando, Fla., who had USC on his short list, committed to Illinois.
• Clemson target 2026 DE Dre Quinn of Atlanta was offered by West Virginia.
