Lowcountry high school girls tennis teams went 5-0 in the 2024 SCHSL state finals on Saturday at the Cayce Tennis Center, winning all five of the state championship titles that were contested.

A true rivalry is born when two competing teams each experience victory. After Wandoā€™s regular season finale win over rival Lucy Beckham, the Mount Pleasant rivalry is on.Ā

As the season winds down, a reminderĀ ā€” the postseason will begin a week later than originally scheduled after the South Carolina High School League extended the regular season by a week as a result of issues related to Hurricane Helene.

OCA girls finish second in AAA swim meet; Academic Magnet, third; Bishop England boys finish third in AAAA state meet; Lucy Beckham fifth in AAAAA Division II.

While there will not be any region championships decided on Friday, several teams can solidify their chances with victories this week while others can stay in the race for their respective championships.

The titles were the 10th consecutive crowns for both boys and girls programs and while the number of individual champions were fewer than in recent victories, the overall depth proved to be the strength.

The winner of Friday nightā€™s SCISA showdown between 6-1 Porter-Gaud and 7-0 Northwood AcademyĀ could secure no worse than a No. 2 seed in the AAAA bracket, which would keep either team away from champion Hammond until at least the state finals.

Ashley Ridge linebacker Dylan Polansky and James Island placekicker Grady Dangerfield are the lone Charleston area representatives on the Sandlappers' squad. It is the fewest number of Lowcountry players taken on the South Carolina roster in more than a decade.
