The 2025 MLK Tri-College Celebration will be held Jan. 17 at noon at The Maxwell Theatre at Augusta University, 2500 Walton Way, Augusta. The event will feature performances by Creative Impressions, Jessye Norman School of the Arts, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and a keynote address from Rev. Dr. Charles E. The Aiken Camellia Society will hold its annual show Jan. 18 from noon to 4 p.m. at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, 129 Pendleton St., Aiken. Blooms for judging will be accepted from 7-10:30 a.m. Those wishing to be judged should bring a camellia bloom with a few inches of stem and some leaves. The Beech Island Historical Society will meet on Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the society's History & Visitors Center, 144 Old Jackson Highway. Direct descendant of Indian trader and Patriot George Galphin, Milledge Murray, will be presenting the story of George Galphin and the Galphin Claim in which the Federal Government paid $191,000 to the estate of George Galphin and his heirs in 1850.
